Event Summary
The Toronto Green Standard is Toronto's sustainable design requirements for new private and City-owned developments since 2021. In Dec 2021 City Council adopted the Net Zero by 2040 Climate Strategy and accelerated the Toronto Green Standard (TGS) implementation dates for the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emission limits to 2025 and 2028 so that buildings constructed on or after 2030 are near zero emissions. Speakers will provide a clear understanding of the City's climate change objectives and expectation for future updates, including implementation of Toronto Green Standard from Energy Efficiency and GHG Emissions perspective.

David MacMillan

David MacMillan is Program Manager with the City of Toronto's Environment & Energy Division (EED), where he has focused on low-carbon community planning and implementation for the past 8 years. He works closely with internal partners and the development industry to achieve net zero emissions buildings, and he is currently developing a city-wide program for wastewater energy transfer projects. David holds a Master in Environmental Studies from York University and is a graduate of the ULI Toronto's Curtner Urban Leadership Program.

David Hall is Project Manager with the City of Toronto's Environment & Energy Division having worked on various portfolios from laying the ground work for developing policy, guidelines, program outreach for Toronto Green Standards in 2009, to subsequent TGS version updates and having reviewed over 1000+ Site Plan Applications, energy models for TGS GHG Tier 1 and Tier 2 requirements. He had been a part of the team that managed the provincial funded High Performance New Construction (HPNC), Conservation and Demand Management (CDM) programs providing financial incentives for new construction and major renovation projects that exceed requirements of the building coded in terms of peak demand reduction.
David played a key role in developing effective working relationship with key building industry stakeholders - building developers, owners, energy consultants, architects, energy modelers, CaGBC, ASHRAE, IBPSA, BOMA and has presented over 100+ seminars on EED programs at various events.
