ASHRAE Toronto Chapter in partnership with the Building Commissioning Association (BCA) and the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) will be hosting a commissioning seminar and dinner meeting on Monday, March 3th, 2014.

1. Healthcare Facility Commissioning and CSA Standard Z8001.  


A review of the CSA standard covering healthcare facility commissioning will be offered in the context of best practice implementation. 

Speaker: David Kennard, Stantec Consulting Ltd.

2. Building Envelope Commissioning

Increasingly included in new building construction, envelope commissioning will be explained and examples of benefits outlined.

Speaker: Jennifer Hogan, Pretium Anderson Building Engineers

3. Hydronic Balancing

Learn how building energy savings can be achieved through the proper balancing of hydronic systems. Trouble shooting comfort issues often leads re-balancing which is why it should not be considered a “once and done” item.

4. ASHRAE Standard 202


This recently issued standard will influence all future commissioning projects. Understanding this standard is critical for all building professionals.

Factory witness tests, load tests, fail over tests, pull the plug tests – learn the challenges involved in commissioning data centre systems and maintaining

6. Condominium Commissioning

Condominium commissiong is a growing field. Compliance with LEED and other sustainability rating systems are often used as a selling feature for
luxury condominiums. Should this influence prospective purchasers? Learn the role of the building owner and benefits to the purchaser from building commissioning.

Retro-Commissioning Existing Buildings

The presentation will look at the What, Why, and How of existing building commissioning. The presentation will include some real world case studies identifying how operational improvements were identified and implemented. 


Luka is a building energy specialist with a passion for helping people make smart energy management decisions. He combines his expertise in predictive building performance simulation, with lessons learned from retro-commissioning, energy assessments and LEED Implementation projects to reduce energy, costs and environmental impacts while improving occupant well-being. Luka is a member of ASHRAE, IBPSA Canada and is part of the committee developing ASHRAE Standard 209 for energy simulation aided design. Some of Luka's recent projects include the new Bridgepoint Hospital, the Pan American Games Athletes' Village and Aquatic Centre and the Royal Bank Plaza, where he has been managing Halsall's retro-commissioning efforts, working closely with Oxford and other stakeholders to identify and deliver over 3.5 million equivalent kWh in energy savings.
