Topic of Presentation

Fire/Smoke Damper Design in Commercial Buildings

.  

The Who, What & Why on the application and use of fire/smoke dampers in commercial structures will be explored through a briefing on the code requirements and standards regarding the selection, installation and maintenance of fire/smoke dampers.

A panel discussion will further probe into the responsibilities of the various parties involved in ensuring that the designer, manufacturer, contractor and inspector have the use and application of the fire/smoke dampers selected to meet the code and owner requirements.


GUEST SPEAKER: ELI P. HOWARD III


As SMACNA’s Executive Director Technical Services, Eli Howard has the overall responsibilities of the more than 30+ SMACNA Technical and ANSI Standards related to the HVAC and Sheet Metal Industry.

Eli is a member of ASHRAE Technical Committees:

  • 90.1 Energy Standard for Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential
  • SSPC 62.1 Ventilation for Acceptable IAQ
  • 7.2 HVAC&R Construction and Design Build Technologies
  • SPC 171P Method of Test of Seismic Restraints for HVAC&R Equipment


Eli has additional responsibilities as SMACNA Liaison to:

  • NFPA 90A & 90B
  • International Code Council (ICC)
  • Canadian Commission on Building and Fire Codes (CCBFC) Standing Committee on HVAC and Plumbing
  • Construction Specifications Institute (CSI)
  • International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO)


 FIRE/SMOKE DAMPER DISCUSSION PANEL

The panel will address questions from the moderator. Time permitting, a few questions will also be taken from the audience.  Attendees will be encouraged to submit questions or discussion topics they would like addressed when registering for the event.
