The New Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO) Building

The 11,400 sq.m, LEED® Platinum Elementary Teacher Federation of Ontario (ETFO) Headquarters serves as an example of how innovative sustainable design can be integrated with ease into an urban neighborhood. The winner of the 2014 Award of Excellence from the Consulting Engineers of Ontario, the project integrated indoor environmental performance-based features such as natural ventilation, low temperature radiant heating & cooling and displacement ventilation – which collectively contributed to the overall building performance and occupant experience. The vertical geo-exchange field located below the building is also the first of its kind in Toronto.

The Integral Group provided mechanical consulting engineering services as part of a comprehensive design team led by Kuwabara Payne McKenna Blumberg Architects (KPMB). Collectively, the team collaborated & worked diligently in turning the vision outlined by ETFO into reality.

Chris Piche

Integral Group
PEng, LEED AP BD+C

With the belief that energy efficient design is not a static process, Chris brings a broad understanding of high performance buildings engineering systems to each project. His approach is rooted in the philosophy that environmentally responsible design must constantly evolve to suit available technology while at the same time keeping in balance with the client’s goals and objectives. Chris has worked on multiple sustainably driven projects in which he was responsible for the design and integration of HVAC, plumbing, and fire suppression systems, including several which have received or are targeting LEED Platinum certification – including the Elementary Teacher’s Federation of Ontario, Fort York Visitors Centre and USGBC Corporate Headquarters.

Chris current heads up the Performance Engineering practice at Integral Group for Eastern Canada – a diverse, multi-disciplinary team focused on Building Optimization, Commissioning Services & Sustainability Consulting.
